Calcium and magnesium from natural sources (Aquamin®)

Description

Every Day Junior is a chewable tablet in the shape of a small elephant with a strawberry flavor, specially developed for children aged 3 and over. The product was developed based on the latest scientific findings, tailored to current data on the nutritional status in Western Europe and the optimal consumption amount per nutrient. Every Day Junior is characterized by its composition, dosage and absorbability. The chewable tablet contains almost the same high-quality substances as Every Day for adults, but the dosage is adapted to the needs of (small) children. One tablet contains a full 15 μg of vitamin D3 (separate vitamin D drops are therefore no longer necessary). It also contains 60 mg of magnesium and 120 mg of calcium from natural sources. In short, Every Day Junior stands up to comparison with other multivitamins for children with flying colors!

sweetener from natural sources
The excipients used determine whether a multivitamin is of high quality. Most multivitamins for children in the form of chewable tablets consist largely of sugar or artificial sweeteners to improve the taste. Every Day Junior is mainly sweetened with steviol glycosides from the stevia plant and now also partly with erythritol. This is a natural sweetener found in, for example, fruit, mushrooms and cheese. It has no calorific value, is largely absorbed in the small intestine and almost completely excreted in the urine. It has no effect on blood sugar levels and is not bad for teeth or oral health. So a very good alternative to sugar or other undesirable (artificial) sweeteners!

Taste recognized by children
Children rate the taste of the Jeder Tag Junior chewable tablets positively. It is of course not a candy, but most children like it.

B vitamins in optimal form and dosage
The Every Day Multis contain plenty of B vitamins in reasonable doses. The daily requirement and average intake amounts as well as their lower limits were examined in detail. Not only the latest scientific findings and the safe upper limits are taken into account, but also the extent to which the body can convert the various B vitamins.

All formulas also contain the biologically active forms of vitamins B2 (riboflavin-5'-phosphate), B6 (pyridoxal-5'-phosphate), B12 (methyl- and adenosylcobalamin) and folic acid (5-methyltetrahydrofolate glucosamine salt). These are the forms used by the body and research shows that these have higher bioavailability in the body.

Vitamin B6 as pyridoxal 5'-phosphate
Very high doses of vitamin B6 can occasionally cause tingling or numbness in the hands or feet. Therefore, in the Netherlands, a maximum safe upper limit of 21 mg per day for adults is considered for vitamin supplements. The Every Day Multis stay well below this (maximum 4.2 mg). In addition, only pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (P-5'-P), the biologically active form of vitamin B6, is used and not pyridoxine HCl, which still has to be converted in the body. Whether the occasional side effects mentioned above only occur with vitamin B6 in the form of pyridoxine HCl and not, or to a lesser extent, with pyridoxal-5'-phosphate is currently being further investigated. There is evidence that only pyridoxine HCl is toxic to nerve cells in high doses.

Folic acid as 5-methyltetrahydrofolate
Folic acid (pteroylmonoglutamic acid), which is most commonly used in supplements for stability reasons, is a synthetic form that does not occur naturally. In food, it is found as folate. Folic acid from supplements must be converted by the body into tetrahydrofolate and then into 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF). Studies show that this complex conversion process is less than optimal in a significant group of people. Supplementing with 5-MTHF eliminates this problem.

Every Day Multis use the superior form 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, bound to glucosamine salt (branded as Quatrefolic®). This binding with glucosamine salt (from plant sources) allows the biologically active form to remain stable and ensures optimal absorption. Studies show that Quatrefolic® has greater water solubility, stability and bioavailability. In addition, 5-MTHF is able to cross the blood-brain barrier, unlike the "normal" (synthetic) form of folic acid.

Vitamin B12 as methyl- and adenosylcobalamin
The absorption of vitamin B12 from food is a complex process. There is also evidence that the NRV (formerly RDA) of 2.5 µg per day has been underestimated and that the needs of healthy adults and the elderly vary and may increase to more than 20 µg per day. Because of the safety of vitamin B12 supplementation and the sometimes difficult absorption of B12 from food and supplements, Every Day Multis contain higher doses of the biologically active forms methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin.

Many other B12 products and multivitamins contain cyanocobalamin, which is a cheaper, synthetic form of vitamin B12 that does not occur naturally and must be converted by the body into the active forms. The cyanide portion is separated from the cobalamin (B12), which then has to be broken down by the body. Studies show that vitamin B12 in the form of methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin has a higher bioavailability than cyanocobalamin.

Rich doses of vitamin D, from plant sources
European government agencies have stated in recent years that the level for adequate dietary vitamin D intake should be higher (15 µg) and that the maximum allowable dose could be increased (100 µg). In the Netherlands, they are still cautious, saying that 10 µg would be enough and that the maximum amount should be 75 µg. The NRV (or RDA), oddly enough, is still 5 µg. But in the orthomolecular world, the importance of higher doses has long been known. Leading vitamin D experts recommend that vitamin D (calcidiol) levels in adults should be at least 75 nmol/l. To maintain such a vitamin D level, an oral dose of vitamin D3 is required, estimated at 25-75 µg per day.

The Every Day Multis contain high doses of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). This form is much more effective at increasing vitamin D levels than vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol). In addition, the new Every Day Multis use plant-based vitamin D3 (Vitamin D3V®). This is because it is made from algae and not from sheep's wool fat (like the vast majority of vitamin D3 products). All multis from the Every Day range are now also suitable for vegans.

vitamin K1 and K2
The Every Day Multis now also contain a small amount of vitamin K1 and a higher dose of vitamin K2. Vitamin K1 is mainly absorbed by the liver and is primarily responsible for the activation of clotting factors, while vitamin K2 has a higher bioavailability, is distributed much more widely in the body's tissues and therefore activates other vitamin K-dependent enzymes such as osteocalcin and MGP more effectively. These ensure, among other things, that the calcium is absorbed correctly and ends up in the right place, namely in the bones.

The body always uses vitamin K first for the vital function of blood clotting. Since vitamin K2 is a much more expensive raw material than vitamin K1, a small amount of K1 is added to the multis so that it can be used for the primary blood clotting function and the K2 for the other, also very important functions.

By the way, the regular NRV for vitamin K is based on the amount required for normal blood clotting. Strangely, the optimal dosage of vitamin K when it comes to other vitamin K-dependent body processes has not been taken into account.

stability of vitamin K2
Vitamin K2 seems to be a very sensitive substance. Especially when combined with calcium and/or magnesium, the content of this vitamin in a tablet or capsule decreases quickly. Using vitamin K2 in a product with high doses of calcium and/or magnesium is technically a real challenge. Vitals therefore uses a K2 supplement with the brand name K2Vital® Delta, which is stable even in a formula with many of these minerals. A patented microencapsulation process is used in which the fat-soluble K2 particles are protected with two layers from reactions with other ingredients. Vitals had the stability of K2Vital® Delta tested by an independent laboratory and this one turned out to be the best. It was compared with other brands of vitamin K2, especially in combination with the ingredients used in Vitals products. The conclusions were that the protection of K2 is absolutely necessary, that the K2 content remained stable with K2Vital® Delta and that it was superior to the other K2 ingredients.

Natural calcium and magnesium from the sea
From now on, Aquamin® brand calcium and magnesium, which come from the sea, will be used in the multis. This means that the tablets contain significantly higher doses than the previously used forms of compound, and the absorption of these ingredients is proven to be good.

The magnesium (Aquamin Magnesium) is extracted from the seawater of the Irish Sea and studies show that it is well absorbed by the body. In addition to around 35% elemental magnesium, the raw material also contains small amounts of other minerals and trace elements.

The calcium (Aquamin Calcium) comes from a red algae called Lithothamnium calcareum. This type of algae absorbs and stores minerals and trace elements from the sea. In nature it has a beautiful red/pink color, but when it dies it calcifies and turns white or light gray. Only calcified red algae are harvested, which come from the waters along the Icelandic coast. In addition to 32% calcium, the raw material also contains 3% magnesium and small amounts of other minerals and trace elements.

The synergistic effect of the natural trace element profile of this calcium and magnesium may explain the better absorption and the impressive studies that have been conducted with it.

Iron, zinc, copper and manganese as amino acid chelate (bisglycinate)
For the minerals iron, zinc, copper and manganese, amino acid chelates (bisglycinates) are chosen. Each magnesium particle is powerfully bound (chelated) to two molecules of the amino acid glycine. Minerals in this composite form pass easily into the small intestine and are very well absorbed. They are also gentle on the stomach, which can be a great advantage, especially with iron. Vitals also specifically chooses the amino acid chelates from Albion Minerals, recognizable by the brand TRAACS®, which stands for "The Real Amino Acid Chelate System". This brand was created to distinguish it from other, possibly inferior, unstable amino acid chelates. Albion has more than 100 patents worldwide that protect the process, science and structure behind their amino acid chelate minerals.

Unique: relatively high dosage of choline
Choline has been more or less a standard ingredient in multivitamins for a long time. But almost always in low doses (between 10-30 mg) because not much was known about it. But that is changing! In 2012, the European Commission approved three health claims for choline, valid at a dose of at least 82.5 mg. It is important for normal lipid metabolism, homocysteine metabolism and normal liver function. In 2016, an RDA of 550 mg/day was set for the first time in America, based on clinical research specifically to determine daily requirements. In 2016, the EFSA also decided that choline is an essential nutrient, but has not yet set an NRV. The adequate intake was set at 400 mg/day, based on average intake in European countries and not on the American study that found 550 mg/day. The average intake by adults in Europe varies between 291 and 468 mg/day. Reason enough to include a generous amount of choline in a daily multivitamin!

In our Every Day Multis we use choline from the VitaCholine® brand. This brand stands for the highest quality and a lot of research has been done on it.

Lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin
Lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin are natural carotenoids. In the body, a high concentration of these substances is found in the retina and the macula lutea (yellow spot). The body cannot produce lutein and zeaxanthin itself, but must obtain them from food. These are found in green leafy vegetables and red, yellow and orange fruits and vegetables. Meso-zeaxanthin is only found in very small quantities in food (shrimps, salmon skin, trout skin and meat). It is mainly formed in the retina by converting lutein through an enzymatic reaction. However, it can be taken in supplements. Meso-zeaxanthin has been known for a relatively short time as a very good supplement and is preferable to supplementing lutein and zeaxanthin alone.
